Hometown Halsey, a Thoroughbred mare rescued in April 2023 by Days End Farm Horse Rescue (DEFHR) in Maryland, was initially underweight and in need of rehabilitation. After months of training under DEFHR’s trainer Leigha Schrader, Halsey showed great potential as a sport horse, attracting interest from adopters. Sarah Flohr, who had been searching for a horse to fill the void left by a previous loss, connected instantly with Halsey and adopted her in August 2024, renaming her Hope to reflect the new beginning and the rescue’s naming tradition.
Since the adoption, Hope has become a beloved member of Flohr’s family, living on her childhood property and bonding closely with Flohr and her daughter Mackenzie. The experience has deepened their understanding of horse care and groundwork, with Flohr praising DEFHR’s supportive adoption process and ongoing education programs. Inspired by DEFHR’s mission, Flohr plans to volunteer and continue learning, highlighting the meaningful impact of rescue organizations on both horses and their new families.
