Oklahoma native Elliot Campbell’s journey into horse racing began unexpectedly after moving to Baltimore and learning about graded stakes winner Cherokee’s Boy from a local GNC store owner, the late Dave Picarello. Following Picarello’s passing in 2023, Campbell took over ZWP Stables with trainer Gary Capuano, honoring their friend’s legacy. Their homebred filly Just Philtored recently won the Maryland Juvenile Filly Stakes at Laurel Park, marking a significant achievement for the stable. Just Philtored descends from the mare Slow and Steady, a cornerstone of their breeding program, known for producing consistently successful racehorses.
Campbell has since transitioned operations under his own London Reid Thoroughbreds, named after his family, while maintaining partnerships. Slow and Steady, Maryland Broodmare of the Year in 2022, has produced 12 starters earning over $2 million and is now carrying her final foal. The stable’s most successful runner to date is Malibu Beauty, a half-sister to Just Philtored, who earned nearly $1 million and will soon begin her broodmare career. Campbell credits the success to a dedicated team and the foundational role of Slow and Steady, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the sport despite his physical distance from the Maryland racing scene.
