Rosy Weaver’s journey from flipping burgers in a diner to becoming one of Ohio’s top harness racing trainers is a story shaped by fate, hard work, and resilience. After responding to a newspaper ad for a racehorse groom, Weaver left her Amish upbringing and began learning the ropes under trainers Ben Miller and Jimmy Smith. Over the years, she built her own stable, achieving a record 100 wins in a single season on Ohio’s county fair circuit despite a major setback when moldy feed poisoned much of her three-year-old crop. Her success is attributed not only to her dedication but also to a strong, loyal team and meticulous preparation for each race.
Weaver’s approach to training emphasizes patience, understanding each horse’s individual ability and temperament, and carefully managing their careers to maintain their competitiveness and longevity. She balances a demanding summer racing schedule with a quieter winter season, traveling extensively to fairs while maintaining a well-organized operation. Her favorite fair, the Hartford Fair, reflects her appreciation for the community spirit of county racing. Honored as the 2025 county fair champion trainer, Weaver’s story is one of overcoming adversity and turning passion into a thriving career in harness racing.
