The Maryland Jockey Club (TMJC) has appointed Fritz Widaman as Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sponsorships. With over 37 years of experience in the horse racing industry, Widaman previously worked at the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) and has a strong background in sales, marketing, and business development.
President and General Manager Bill Knauf expressed excitement about Widaman joining the TMJC team, citing his experience in racetrack, national sponsorship, and marketing. Widaman himself is looking forward to being a part of the “new” Pimlico Racecourse and the Preakness, thanking the TMJC and the Maryland Thoroughbred Racetrack Operating Authority for the opportunity.
Widaman’s career began at Santa Anita Park in Southern California, and he later held positions at Hollywood Park and Ruidoso Downs. He then joined the NTRA in 2003, where he played a key role in the growth of NTRA Advantage. Widaman’s educational background includes attending the University of Arizona’s Racetrack Industry Program, which complemented his industry experience.
