The 2026 Betfred Derby Festival at Epsom Downs is set for significant enhancements aimed at boosting attendance and fan engagement. Key changes include free entry for under-18s, free parking, new seating areas with covered “bleacher”-style views, live entertainment zones, and an after-party in the grandstand. The prize money will see a substantial increase, with the Derby purse rising by £500,000 to £2 million, making it the joint-richest race in the UK. Additionally, the Coolmore Coronation Cup will move to Saturday and more than double its prize to £1 million, creating a packed and exciting race day alongside the Derby and Betfred Dash.
These improvements stem from feedback from racegoers, sponsors, and the local community, reflecting a commitment to making the festival more accessible and enjoyable for all, including families and younger audiences. Epsom Downs general manager Jim Allen emphasized the goal of delivering a world-class event that honors the Derby’s prestigious heritage while evolving to meet modern expectations. Trainer Aidan O’Brien welcomed the increased investment and initiatives to attract younger fans, highlighting the Derby’s importance in the racing calendar and breeding industry.
