Four Young Riders from Vancouver Island to Compete at North American Youth Dressage Championship

Four young riders from Bonnie Brae Farm in Central Saanich have qualified to represent Canada at the prestigious North American Youth dressage Championship, competing against top youth riders from Canada, the U.S., and Mexico. Despite challenges such as the lack of local qualifying shows on Vancouver Island, these riders—ranging in age from 12 to 18—travel extensively to compete and train under the guidance of Brittney Simpson, a dedicated coach and competitive dressage rider aiming for the 2028 Olympics. The riders include Estella Gosniak and Gwendolyn Joinson, who will compete in the children’s category, and Imogen Hawes and Alison Campbell-Wright, who will compete in the junior event.

Their journeys highlight remarkable resilience and dedication, especially Gwendolyn, who overcame multiple heart surgeries, and Alison, who returned to riding after a serious back injury. The riders and their families credit much of their success to Simpson’s leadership and the strong bonds they share with their horses. The championship event runs from July 29 to August 3, showcasing the hard work and passion of these inspiring young equestrians.
