Police in Munshiganj have arrested four gang members—Rubel, Saurav, Sohel Gazi, and Yasin Arafat—accused of slaughtering sick and elderly horses and selling the meat as beef. The arrests followed a raid in Anarpura area after a tip-off, where suspects fled, leaving behind horse meat that was seized and handed to the Department of Livestock Services. A case was filed after a local complaint, and subsequent joint operations led to the arrests in Gazipur.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to a long-running operation involving the slaughter of sick horses from various regions, especially the Jamuna char areas, processing the meat, and transporting it to Dhaka to be sold as beef. Police continue efforts to apprehend other gang members involved in the scheme.
