Fordham Family Honored with 2025 Show Legacy Award for Quarter Horse Contributions

The Fordham family of Aberdeen has built a remarkable legacy in the world of American Quarter Horses, marked by dedication, competition success, and community involvement. Starting from humble beginnings with sale barn ponies, Don and Linda Fordham nurtured their daughters Kim, Kris, and Kara’s passion for horses, leading them to compete at state, regional, and world championship levels. Don bred halter horses and built an indoor arena for training, while Linda supported and competed herself, earning recognition such as the South Dakota AQHA rookie of the year. The daughters achieved numerous accolades, including national titles and rodeo honors, and the family’s commitment continues with the next generation actively involved in youth and NRHA events.

Kim Fordham, now a breeder and competitor in ranch riding and reining, emphasizes lifelong learning and the importance of strong horse-rider partnerships. She and her fiancé raise horses and cattle near Pierre, focusing on quality bloodlines and the well-being of their animals, many of which live long, retired lives on their ranch. The family’s contributions to the horse community are being honored with the 2025 Show Legacy Award by the South Dakota Quarter Horse Association. Beyond competition, Kim actively supports youth programs and encourages newcomers, highlighting the inclusive and supportive nature of the horse-riding community.
