At the New York Auto Show, Ford showcased its Mustang lineup with two standout models: the Mustang Dark Horse SC and the Mustang GTD Spirit of America. The Dark Horse SC is a track-capable street car featuring a supercharged 5.2-liter V8, advanced cooling, suspension, and aerodynamic upgrades, including carbon fiber wheels and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes. It offers a significant performance boost over the standard Dark Horse, with a focus on usability and street driving, priced starting at $103,490. This model fills the gap left by the absence of a new GT500, delivering high-level performance while maintaining Mustang’s traditional character.
In contrast, the Mustang GTD Spirit of America is a race car-derived platform boasting over 800 horsepower, an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, active aerodynamics, and extensive carbon fiber construction. It pays homage to Mustang’s racing heritage and American spirit, highlighted by its red, white, and blue livery and Nürburgring record. Positioned as the ultimate American supercar, the GTD pushes the Mustang name into new territory, emphasizing extreme performance and track dominance. Together, these two models illustrate Ford’s broadening Mustang range, offering vastly different experiences under one iconic nameplate.
