The Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association (FTBOA) hosted a summer equine day camp on June 11 for participants in the UF/IFAS Extension 4-H youth development program. The event included a history tour of the Florida Thoroughbred Museum led by Elaine Ansbacher and a presentation by Tammy Gantt about equine careers, the region’s status as the Horse Capital of the World®, and insights into the upcoming Ocala Breeders Sales June Sale. Since the students had never attended a public Thoroughbred auction, Gantt also provided a tour of the Ocala Breeders Sales (OBS) facility.
Organized by Marion County extension agent Katie Davis, the day camp featured visits to the Thoroughbred farm of Bobby and Lori Jones and the World Equestrian Center to observe a horse show. This was the first equine day camp held by the 4-H program this summer, with plans to expand the event in the future.
