The Flagler Humane Society’s “Coffee and Doughnuts with Cats” adoption event on August 17 resulted in 17 cat adoptions, with four more pending, and five dogs also finding new homes. The event featured half-price cat adoptions at $25, a discount extended through the end of the month thanks to a sponsorship by SeaGate Homes. This special event aimed to rehome 96 cats rescued from unsafe conditions in a Palm Coast residence, with additional cats brought in by local foster Jeff Jacobs, who focuses on saving older or sickly cats from euthanasia.
Jeff Jacobs, who fosters many cats through Toby’s Paws of Anarchy, has helped about 45 cats find homes this year and dedicates his resources, including Social Security benefits, to his rescue efforts. Several adopters shared personal connections to their new pets, such as Claire Powell adopting Sprinkles, a one-eyed cat, reflecting her experience with a one-eyed horse. Other adopters included Ellen Spencer, Paul and Christine Mika, and Trish Vevera, who adopted two cats after losing her previous pets.
