Flagler County’s Lt. Karl Froling Named Florida Search and Rescue Responder Officer of the Year

Lieutenant Karl Froling of Flagler County Fire Rescue was named the Search and Rescue Responder Officer of the Year by the Florida Fire Chiefs Association, recognized for his leadership, service, and dedication to improving rescue capabilities. His efforts extend beyond individual rescues, exemplified by his 2012 work rescuing a horse trapped in mud, which led him to establish a partnership with the University of Florida to standardize training and equipment for animal technical rescues across Florida.

Froling’s collaborative approach has strengthened regional emergency response through partnerships with neighboring agencies, transforming Flagler County’s Technical Rescue Team into a highly capable unit. Praised for his technical expertise, character, and commitment to education and mentorship, Froling has influenced a generation of firefighters, including his own son, and elevated rescue readiness throughout the state.
