Five Defendants Plead Not Guilty in Wilder Illegal Horse Race Gambling Case

Dayana Fajardo and four others have pleaded not guilty to charges related to an alleged illegal gambling operation at a horse racing track in Wilder, Idaho. Fajardo was indicted for helping take wagers and handling gambling proceeds, while the other defendants face similar illegal gambling charges, with two also charged with transmitting wagering information. The operation allegedly involved La Catedral arena, and if convicted, the defendants must forfeit the arena and over $40,000 earned from gambling.

The charges carry penalties of up to five years in prison, probation, and hefty fines, with additional penalties for transmitting wagering information. Fajardo was initially non-compliant during her arrest and remains in custody pending a release plan, while some co-defendants have been released ahead of trial. A pretrial hearing is set for December 4, with jury selection beginning December 15.
