Firefighters Rescue Pony Stuck in Muddy Ditch in Mogliano Veneto

In Mogliano Veneto, a pony became stuck in a narrow irrigation ditch, likely attracted by the cool mud or to drink water, and was unable to free itself. The Treviso Fire Brigade responded to the rescue, arriving with a veterinarian to assist. Using hoses from their fire engine, they successfully lifted the exhausted pony out of the ditch. Fortunately, the animal was not in danger and is expected to avoid such hazards in the future despite the tempting cool air on hot days.

This rescue highlights a common challenge for firefighters, who handle animal rescues regularly. According to the Fire Brigade’s 2021 data, animal rescues accounted for 2% of their total interventions—about 20,000 cases nationwide—and this figure has remained steady even during the pandemic. While other emergency services declined due to reduced human activity, animals continued their usual behaviors, requiring consistent firefighter assistance.
