Firefighters Rescue 800-Kilogram Horse Stuck in Bog at Bromyard

The Large Animal Rescue Team from Bromyard Fire Station, assisted by Wyre Forest Fire Station, responded to a call on September 3 to rescue Ruby, an 800-kilogram Belgian Draught horse stuck in a bog after breaking through electrical fencing. Despite initial efforts to help Ruby escape by placing straw in front of her, she was too exhausted to move. The team then carefully sedated Ruby and used straps to lift her out with the help of a local farmer and a vet.

After the successful rescue, Ruby was allowed to regain her footing in the harness before being taken back to her stable for a thorough health check, which confirmed she was uninjured and healthy. Bromyard Fire Station praised the collaborative effort, highlighting the teamwork that led to a positive outcome for Ruby.
