The FEI has launched an investigation into Australian Olympic rider Heath Ryan following the release of a video showing what has been described as “abusive training techniques.” Ryan, who competed in the 2008 Olympics and has been suspended by Equestrian Australia (EA), is under scrutiny for his treatment of a young horse named Nico. The FEI, working with EA, emphasized its commitment to horse welfare and stated it will thoroughly examine the facts to determine appropriate disciplinary actions. EA’s chief executive expressed support for the FEI-led investigation and urged patience as the process unfolds.
Heath Ryan responded by explaining that the video was filmed two years ago during a “rescue mission” for Nico, a horse that had previously injured its owner and faced euthanasia. Ryan claims the horse is now thriving in a new home. The FEI has invited anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist with the investigation.
