FEI Launches Equestrian Safety Vest Working Group to Enhance Rider Protection Through Science and Collaboration

The FEI has launched the Equestrian Safety Vest Working Group (ESVWG), a global initiative aimed at improving rider safety by rigorously evaluating the effectiveness of body protectors and air vests used in equestrian sports. Chaired by Dr. Mark Hart, the group seeks to address the current lack of independent, science-based data on how these protective vests prevent injuries. The ESVWG will analyze injury data, vest performance, and testing protocols, while also considering factors like rider mobility and horse behavior.

The working group consists of two panels: a Scientific Panel of experts in biomechanics, medicine, and manufacturing, and a National Federation Advisory Panel to ensure global stakeholder involvement and support research funding. Building on the success of the FEI Helmet Working Group, the ESVWG aims to foster innovation and evidence-based safety improvements through international collaboration and cross-sport research, ultimately enhancing protective equipment standards for equestrians worldwide.
