Fast Track Program Offers Pathway into Thoroughbred Breeding Sector and Industry Recognition

Thoroughbred Breeders Australia’s Fast Track program offers a unique opportunity for individuals to work on a farm, receive a wage, and study for a Certificate III in Horse Breeding. The 12-month course targets people from outside the breeding and racing industry, providing foundational skills and knowledge for successful careers in the thoroughbred sector. Graduates have gone on to work in management roles on farms and participate in various industry programs.

The program, now in its eighth year, has a high success rate with 90% of trainees continuing to work in the industry after completion. It is open to individuals from diverse backgrounds, including electricians, beauty therapists, and army veterans, looking for a career change. Successful applicants undergo a full-time paid traineeship on a stud farm while studying for a nationally recognized qualification in horse breeding.

In addition to the Fast Track program, Thoroughbred Breeders Australia has launched TBA Schools, an educational hub designed to connect the industry with schools and students through the Australian curriculum. The program provides multimedia content, real-world case studies, and cross-curricular activities for teachers to incorporate the thoroughbred industry into various subjects. The resources aim to engage students in meaningful learning about careers, sustainability initiatives, innovation, and technology in the industry.
