Farrington Wins Third American Gold Cup Title at Flintfields Horse Park

The American Gold Cup, a prestigious show jumping event established in 1970, has been held at Flintfields Horse Park in Traverse City since 2020. In the latest competition, Kent Farrington and his 10-year-old Oldenburg mare Greya delivered a record-breaking performance, winning the event with a jump-off time of 34.75 seconds. This victory marked Farrington’s third American Gold Cup win and matched his record of six grand prix wins in a calendar year. Farrington praised his team and the horse’s athleticism, emphasizing the importance of knowing his horse’s best possible round rather than chasing competitors.

Irish Olympians Shane Sweetnam and Daniel Coyle also made notable showings, finishing second and third respectively. Sweetnam, riding James Kann Cruz, narrowly missed a third consecutive American Gold Cup title, while Coyle’s podium finish on Farrel was especially significant given the horse’s comeback from a six-year injury hiatus. Event Director Matthew Morrissey highlighted the successful season and plans for future improvements, with Farrington reflecting on the venue’s role in developing horses and elevating the sport through top-tier competition and course design.
