Family of Four Completes Cross-Country Horseback Journey Ending at Sunset Beach, NC

The White family, Joshua, Terra, and their sons Lucus and Levi, embarked on a three-year horseback journey across the United States starting in April 2022 from Susanville, California. Traveling with six horses and a mule, they covered over 4,000 miles through 16 states, aiming to disconnect from modern distractions and raise their children on the road. The boys managed navigation and finances, documenting their adventure on social media. Their original plan was to conclude the trip at Holden Beach, North Carolina, to celebrate the boys’ graduation, but they discovered horses are prohibited on the beach and the bridge into town.

Unable to access Holden Beach, the family paused at the nearby Wild Horse Preserve and later arranged to finish their journey at Sunset Beach, where a private pier owner allowed them to unload their horses and walk them to the water. After completing the final walk, the Whites will return home by truck and trailer, planning to offer horsemanship clinics along the way to preserve and teach the traditional skills they value.
