Racing is set to return to Fair Hill, Maryland, over Memorial Day weekend with the Maryland Jockey Club hosting events on May 24 and 25. Monday’s card will feature traditional steeplechase races for the first time since 2019, while Sunday’s races will be flat, though the exact style remains uncertain. Fair Hill, a historic venue since 1934 and former host of the Breeders Cup Steeplechase, paused racing from 2020 to 2024 due to turf renovations and the addition of equestrian event rings, which complicated scheduling.
This year marks a new chapter as parimutuel wagering will be available nationwide under the “Laurel at Fair Hill” banner, expanding betting beyond on-site attendees. The Maryland Jockey Club views this revival as a significant step in developing the racing calendar. Although Fair Hill was approved for up to eight racing days in 2026, it has yet to approach that number. The venue also remains a key training site for prominent trainers like H. Graham Motion and Keri Brion.
