Fair Hill Races Return After Six-Year Hiatus with Upgraded Turf and Free Admission

The Fair Hill turf track in Maryland, known for hosting top jump horse races since 1934, is resuming racing after a six-year hiatus due to turf upgrades and funding challenges. The newly renamed “Races at Fair Hill” will feature six flat races on Saturday, with higher weights indicating horses that compete or will compete in jump races. The event, organized by the Sport & Entertainment Corporation of Maryland, offers a total purse of $150,000 and free admission and parking, aiming to rebuild interest and potentially reintroduce jump racing in future meets.

This year’s event will maintain pari-mutuel wagering and provide general admission seating with picnic-friendly grassy areas, though tailgates will be absent for now. The organizers hope to expand racing opportunities at Fair Hill over time, testing demand in a region rich with horses. Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase, with restrictions on glass bottles and alcohol sales managed by vendors on site.
