Producer Sun Shuyun’s curiosity about the deeper meaning behind the Chinese zodiac animal signs, sparked during a 2018 Spring Festival family gathering, led her on a five-year global journey to explore the significance of the horse. Dissatisfied with the common, simplistic explanations she received, Sun traveled across four continents to document the stories of six different horse breeds, culminating in the creation of the documentary Horse Power.

Premiered at the 15th Beijing International Film Festival in April 2024, Horse Power is one of the first zodiac animal documentaries and highlights the profound historical and cultural impact of horses as humanity’s companions. The film is set for release on the first day of the 2026 Year of the Horse in three versions tailored for television, giant-screen theaters, and children, emphasizing the enduring bond between humans and horses throughout millennia.
