The Allen County Fair in Lima, Ohio, showcases a diverse range of 4-H special interest projects beyond traditional livestock, allowing students to develop various skills such as sewing, gardening, woodworking, food preservation, and leadership. Vivian Elrod, the 2025 Special Interest Queen, highlights how these projects not only foster creativity and practical skills but also teach important life skills like interview techniques and respectful conduct.
With around 200 special interest projects available, 4-H offers opportunities for all students, including those who love animals but cannot raise them, through programs like the horseless horse project. The fair’s Youth Exhibit Building provides a space for visitors to explore the wide array of student projects, encouraging youth to try new activities and expand their interests.
