Attending the Global Symposium on Racing was a profoundly enriching experience that connected my academic studies in the University of Arizona’s Race Track Industry Program with real-world industry insights. The event featured panels with leading experts discussing key topics such as regulation, integrity, media, and the future of horse racing, which deepened my understanding of how theoretical concepts apply in practice. Networking opportunities allowed me to explore diverse career paths, gain mentorship—especially from Scott Chaney of the California Horse Racing Board—and build lasting professional relationships. Additionally, participating in student-led initiatives like Racing After Hours and engaging with industry figures like Donna Brothers enhanced my media skills and industry perspective.
The Symposium also showcased the importance of teamwork and dedication, as evidenced by the successful organization praised by attendees. Highlights included attending the awards luncheon honoring Griffin Johnson and meeting notable personalities such as Jayson Werth and Ramón Domínguez, underscoring the event’s prestige and broad industry impact. Overall, the experience strengthened my career goals, provided valuable motivation, and reinforced the collaborative nature essential to advancing the horse racing industry. I am grateful for the opportunity and eager to apply these lessons in my continued education and professional journey.
