Excitement Builds for Canterbury Park’s 31st Racing Season Opening on May 24

Canterbury Park’s 31st horse racing season kicks off on May 24 at 5 p.m. CT, featuring an eight-race program, with additional races scheduled for May 25 and Memorial Day. The event has attracted a robust turnout, with 186 horses entered by 42 trainers, averaging 8.45 entries per race, a notable increase from last season’s average of 7.36. Senior manager Amber Carlisle expressed excitement about the return of horsepeople and the addition of new outfits to the racetrack.

The competition is expected to be fierce this season, with perennial leading trainer Mac Robertson aiming for his 17th title and jockey Harry Hernandez returning after a successful two-year stint. Hernandez, who won the riding title in 2022 and 2023, is eager to compete again, while the absence of last season’s top two riders opens the field for new talent. A total of 22 jockeys will participate over the opening weekend, showcasing a diverse and skilled jockey colony.

Canterbury Park is enhancing the racing experience with free Brisnet past performances available for all 51 days of the season and a 50-cent Pick 5 wager with a 10% takeout, the lowest in North American racing. The season promises excitement with a mix of turf and main track races, and the anticipation of strong handle figures as the community comes together for live racing.
