Essex Equine Sanctuary Launches Urgent Winter Feed Appeal to Support Over 100 Horses

Remus Horse Sanctuary in Essex, home to over 100 horses, ponies, and donkeys, has launched an urgent Winter Feed Appeal to raise £2,500. The funds will support maintaining feed stores and delivering emergency supplies to tethered and neglected horses, especially during winter when grazing is scarce. Founder Sue Burton highlighted the challenges posed by lower hay yields and rising costs due to difficult growing conditions, emphasizing the sanctuary’s role in providing essential care and alerting authorities to welfare breaches.

Established in 1983 by Sue Burton, who was awarded an MBE for her services to equine welfare, Remus offers rehabilitation and lifetime care for a variety of animals. The sanctuary continues its mission to ensure vulnerable equines are safe, warm, and well-fed, relying on community support to respond to emergency calls and maintain high welfare standards across the county. Donations can be made via their JustGiving page to help sustain their vital work this winter.
