Escape Artist Donkeys Rescued and Rehomed by The Donkey Sanctuary with Police Support

Two donkeys near Pershore had been repeatedly escaping onto the road, creating safety risks and requiring frequent police intervention. After weeks of advice and collaboration between West Mercia Police, The Donkey Sanctuary, and World Horse Welfare, the donkeys’ owner agreed to have them taken into the sanctuary’s care. The team secured the challenging environment, safely captured the donkeys—named Grapefruit and Elderflower—and transported them to The Donkey Sanctuary’s New Arrivals Unit in Sidmouth for ongoing care.

The sanctuary emphasized the importance of secure fencing to prevent such escapes, noting donkeys’ natural curiosity and tendency to browse through hedgerows. Thanks to the joint efforts of the owner, police, and welfare organizations, the donkeys now have a safe and secure future with veterinary care and proper management, ending the repeated public safety concerns.
