Equine vet Simon Constable and his daughter Zara recently competed at the prestigious Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) in Birmingham, a major five-day equestrian event featuring world-class show jumping and various displays. Zara, who had earlier won lead rein championships at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, qualified for HOYS at the Royal Cheshire County Show and secured sixth place in the Welsh Lead Rein Pony of the Year class riding her sister’s pony, Honey Pot. This marked the family’s first time competing in a lead rein class, with Simon expressing both nervousness and pride, especially as it was Zara’s final year with Honey Pot before moving to more advanced classes.
The event attracted around 65,000 spectators and 1,500 competitors, with Zara’s family and friends celebrating her top 10 finish as a dream come true for young riders. The Constable family has a strong equestrian background, with Simon’s wife Emily having previously competed and won Reserve Champion at HOYS. Looking ahead, Zara will pass Honey Pot’s reins to her younger sister Izzy, continuing the family’s equestrian legacy.
