Equine Rescue and Adoption Foundation Seeks Community Support During Florida’s Summer Heat

The Equine Rescue and Adoption Foundation (ERAF), based in Palm City, has been dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming neglected horses for 25 years. As a nonprofit relying on donations and volunteers, ERAF currently cares for 21 horses, with monthly care costs ranging from $800 to $1,000 per horse. The summer months pose additional challenges due to Florida’s heat, especially for horses with anhidrosis, requiring extra care like regular hosing and misting. To address funding needs during this period, ERAF launched its Summer of Care campaign and is actively seeking community volunteers to help with daily tasks and support.

Beyond rescue and adoption, ERAF offers programs like Begin Again, which prepares horses for equine-assisted therapy, emphasizing the therapeutic value of ground interaction with horses. The organization encourages community involvement through donations, sponsorships, volunteering, and group visits. ERAF’s mission is exemplified by success stories such as the recent adoption of four bonded mares together, highlighting the foundation’s commitment to giving horses a new chapter in life. More information and ways to get involved can be found at www.eraf.org.
