Equine-Assisted Learning at National Ability Center Builds Confidence and Connection from the Ground Up

The National Ability Center (NAC) in Park City offers an innovative Equine-Assisted Learning program that focuses on building confidence, communication, and connection through ground-based interactions with horses. This adaptive program, accredited by Path International, serves individuals with physical, cognitive, and developmental disabilities, using horses’ sensitivity to human emotions to help participants develop skills like problem-solving, self-awareness, and teamwork before they even mount a horse.

With nearly 40 years of experience in adaptive recreation, NAC provides over 34,000 experiences annually, including this transformative equestrian program. While only individuals with disabilities can enroll as participants, community members are encouraged to volunteer in various supportive roles, ensuring safety and accessibility. The program fosters a reciprocal relationship where horses remain engaged and trained, and participants gain independence and trust, making a profound impact on lives from the ground up.
