Emily Johnson, Cheltenham Racecourse’s official Artist in Residence, has launched an online sealed bid auction for her oil painting titled ‘Esperanza,’ inspired by the grace and energy of Andalusian and Spanish horses. Half of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to The Mare and Foal Sanctuary, a charity dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating vulnerable horses and ponies. The painting will be displayed at Cheltenham Racecourse during the December meet, with the auction closing on December 14th. Emily’s deep connection with horses, supported by her equine science background, informs her art and fuels her commitment to supporting equine welfare.
The Mare and Foal Sanctuary, caring for over 550 rescued equines, welcomes Emily’s generous contribution, which will aid their mission to provide top-quality care and rehabilitation. The charity also promotes the therapeutic benefits of spending time with horses through wellness events and equine-assisted sessions. Emily emphasizes the calming and grounding influence horses have on her own wellbeing, describing them as her ultimate mental and emotional reset. The auction is expected to attract strong interest, with similar works by Emily previously selling for £1,000 to £2,000. Interested bidders can participate via Emily’s official website.
