Emma Hassell has achieved remarkable success in the South African National Equestrian Schools Association (Sanesa) competitions this year, earning regional Gauteng colours for equitation and prix caprilli, as well as provincial school equestrian colours. In her first year competing in prix caprilli—a discipline combining dressage and jumping—she won the high school level 5 victor ludorum title. Emma credits her hard work and strong partnership with her eight-year-old thoroughbred, Maverick’s Magic, whom she has trained since he was three.
Emma began riding in 2020 and quickly developed a deep bond with her horse, which she sees as key to their success. Looking ahead, she aims to strengthen their connection and compete at higher levels. Her mother, Debbi Hassell, acknowledges the challenges of supporting a young rider but celebrates Emma’s dedication and achievements. Emma encourages new riders to believe in themselves and work hard to reach their goals.
