Emma Hassell has had an outstanding year in South African equestrian competitions, earning Gauteng regional colours for Equitation and Prix Caprilli, provincial school colours for Equestrian, and being named Victor Ludorum for High School Prix Caprilli Level 5 in her first year competing in that discipline. Since starting riding in 2020, Emma has developed a strong partnership with her horse, Maverick’s Magic, an eight-year-old thoroughbred she has trained from a young age. Her achievements reflect years of dedication and a deep connection with her horse, highlighted by memorable experiences such as competing at Nationals against the country’s best riders.
Emma’s mother, Debbi, praises her daughter’s perseverance and the life lessons horse riding has imparted, including patience, responsibility, and hard work. Looking ahead, Emma aims to strengthen her bond with Maverick’s Magic and advance to higher jumping levels. Beyond trophies, the sport has been pivotal in shaping Emma’s character and fostering a special friendship with her horse, making the demanding journey worthwhile for both rider and family.
