Patch, an emaciated foal rescued earlier this year by Redwings Horse Sanctuary, has sadly died. He was brought in with another foal, Billy, both suffering from liver disease, maggot-infested wounds, and a heavy worm burden. While Billy died shortly after rescue, Patch initially responded well to treatment and enjoyed time in a paddock with other horses.
Despite the veterinary team’s best efforts, Patch’s young body showed signs of long-term intestinal damage. He recently experienced a severe bout of colic, leading to the difficult decision to euthanize him to prevent further suffering. The sanctuary expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the young foal.
