At the Otoe County 4-H Horse Show, judge Corrane Moss praised the creativity and effort in the horse costume contest, highlighting Elsie England’s entry as the standout winner. England’s horse, Blaze, was dressed in a unique construction-themed costume featuring road barricades, flashers, and road signs, earning the top purple ribbon for its originality and Blaze’s calm tolerance of the elaborate outfit.
England explained that while the idea was inspired by something they saw, she expanded on it by adding more elements to the costume. Despite Blaze’s usual discomfort with things on him, he handled the costume well, impressing both the judge and the audience. When asked if she’d be ready to join road construction crews with Blaze, England responded playfully, showing pride in their creative and well-executed presentation.
