Thoroughbred horses, known for their sturdiness, speed, adaptability, and agility, are considered a hot-blooded breed and are especially valued for their boldness and strength. Those bred and trained by the Army, particularly the elite Trooper A horses, outperform horses from private stables due to their superior training and conditioning.
Currently, the mounted police wing includes 10 thoroughbreds alongside Kathiawari and Marwari breeds. New horses undergo a period of acclimatization followed by training before being officially inducted into the squad. Army-trained thoroughbreds are prized for their exceptional tolerance to noise and crowds, making them ideal for night patrols, parades, and ceremonial duties.
