El Paso Cowboy Sentenced to Probation for Sexual Assault Despite Wildfire Horse Rescue

William Molinar, an El Paso cowboy known for rescuing over a dozen horses during the 2024 Ruidoso wildfires, was sentenced to 10 years probation after pleading guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child. The offenses, involving a 13-year-old girl who had a horse stabled at Molinar’s ranch, occurred in 2016 and included forced sexual acts. As part of his sentence, Molinar must complete 250 hours of community service, register as a sex offender for life, undergo treatment, and adhere to strict restrictions such as avoiding places where children gather and following a curfew.

Despite his publicized role in aiding fire crews and rescuing horses during the wildfires, court documents reveal a disturbing pattern of abuse. The assault began with Molinar holding the victim’s hand, escalating to forced kissing, oral sex, and intercourse during rides home. His probation conditions also prohibit him from supervising or participating in programs involving minors and from possessing firearms.
