Eco-Friendly Melvich Pupils and Staff Raise £205 for Riding for the Disabled

Eco-conscious pupils and staff at Melvich Primary School raised over £200 for Riding for the Disabled, a Highland charity offering therapeutic horse-riding to individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. The school’s Eco Committee chose to support this cause after learning about its benefits through a classmate, Junior Hornsby-Bain, who participates in the charity’s riding classes. Instead of exchanging Christmas cards, the school encouraged donations to the charity, combining festive generosity with waste reduction efforts.

In a presentation ceremony, Junior Hornsby-Bain and members of the Eco Committee handed over a cheque for £205 to representatives of the Caithness Branch of Riding for the Disabled. This initiative highlights the school community’s commitment to environmental responsibility and social support, demonstrating how young people can make a positive impact locally.
