The Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre (EHCRC) in Rojales, dedicated to rescuing neglected and abused horses, ponies, and donkeys, has recently completed a second hay barn to support its growing population of 117 animals. Built entirely by co-founder Rod Weeding, this new weather-resistant and well-ventilated structure allows the centre to store several months’ supply of hay, addressing the critical need for reliable, high-quality feed amid rising prices and increasing animal numbers. The barn enhances the centre’s ability to purchase hay in bulk at better prices, ensuring consistent nutrition vital for the recovery and wellbeing of many rescued animals.
Operating solely on donations, volunteer efforts, and the dedication of Rod and Susan Weeding, EHCRC has relied on Rod’s practical skills to build much of the sanctuary’s infrastructure since its founding in 2008. The new hay barn, funded partly by a grant from Rojales Council, complements the original hay store and represents a significant step toward securing the centre’s future. Susan emphasizes that dependable hay supply is their largest ongoing expense and crucial for the animals’ health, highlighting the barn’s role in sustaining the rescue centre’s mission to care for current and future rescues.
