Dr. Jack Murphy, a respected equine business lecturer and accomplished sport horse breeder from Ballymacar, New Ross, has passed away at the age of 64 following a fatal medical emergency while driving near New Ross. A native of Donanore, Enniscorthy, he was deeply involved in the equine community, serving on the Irish Horse Board from 2013 and as its Chairman from 2017 to 2021. He also lectured at Maynooth University’s School of Business and developed Dolmen Sport Horses into a well-known name in sport horse breeding alongside his wife, Dr. Karen Hennessy.
Dr. Murphy is remembered for his significant contributions to the equine industry, including shaping policies, mentoring individuals, and breeding athletic horses. He is survived by his wife Karen, four daughters, extended family, and many friends. The Irish Horse Board paid tribute to his enduring legacy as a committed director, educator, and breeder. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Church, Cushinstown, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
