The Oswego County SPCA rescued about 60 animals—including cows, horses, cats, chickens, exotic birds, and lizards—from horrific conditions on a property in Sandy Creek, New York, on March 13. The rescue involved multiple agencies and volunteers, with urgent medical care provided to several pregnant mares. Jeffrey D. Zehr, 44, of Pulaski, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty and failure to provide proper sustenance.
Zehr has a prior history of animal cruelty charges from a 2019 case involving neglected and dead animals. Authorities continue to investigate the current case and encourage the public to report any suspected animal cruelty. No court dates have been announced yet.
