Douglas County Fairgrounds Receives $4,000 Grant to Enhance Livestock Events

The Douglas County Fairgrounds has received a $4,000 Rural Community Grant from AgWest Farm Credit to increase participation in livestock events at the annual North Central Washington Fair in Waterville. The grant will be used to help cover part of a $33,000 renovation of the Open Class Horse Barn to provide more space for FFA, 4-H, and Grange Youth exhibits. The renovation will include a new concrete floor, electrical upgrades, and improved wheelchair access.

Fairgrounds officials anticipate continued growth in interest in showcasing livestock at future fairs, with almost 500 livestock exhibits featured at last year’s fair. The grant from AgWest Farm Credit will contribute to the efforts to improve the facilities at the fairgrounds and enhance the experience for participants and visitors. The funding will support the renovation of the Open Class Horse Barn, which is a key component of the fairgrounds’ livestock events.

The grant from AgWest Farm Credit, a Spokane-based agricultural cooperative, is part of a larger effort to revitalize the fairgrounds and make improvements to accommodate the growing interest in livestock events. The renovation of the Open Class Horse Barn is expected to enhance the overall experience for participants in FFA, 4-H, and Grange Youth exhibits, as well as provide better facilities for showcasing livestock at the North Central Washington Fair.
