Dorset Rural Mounted Volunteers Named Police Support Volunteer Team of the Year

Dorset Police’s Rural Mounted Volunteers have been honored as the Police Support Volunteer Team of the Year at the South West Citizens in Policing Awards. The award highlights their unique and innovative approach to tackling rural crime, emphasizing their visibility and strong community presence which adds a new dimension to rural policing. Since their inception in 2023 with just three riders, the team has expanded to 16 vetted volunteers who patrol on horseback, supporting police operations and gathering intelligence.

These volunteers use their own horses to conduct highly visible patrols in rural areas, working closely with the Rural Crime Team to deter crime, report agricultural and wildlife issues, and build trust within the community. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact Dorset Police for more information about joining the Rural Mounted Volunteers.
