Detroit Horse Power, a nonprofit founded over a decade ago by David Silver, is expanding its youth development program by opening a large urban equestrian center in the Hope Village neighborhood on Detroit’s west side. The organization uses horseback riding to help young people build confidence, discipline, and life skills, but until now, participants had to travel outside the city to access horse barns. The new facility, located at the former Paul Robeson Academy site, will make the program more accessible and allow it to scale up its impact within the community.
Supported by community partnerships, fundraising, and grants raising millions of dollars, the project is expected to be completed by December. Silver emphasizes that the center will be a “game changer” for Detroit youth, combining horses, kids, and the local neighborhood to create a strong, long-term positive influence in the city.
