Deterministic, a four-year-old son of Liam’s Map, won the Grade 1 Fourstardave Stakes at Saratoga Race Course under jockey Kendrick Carmouche. Trained by Miguel Clement, who recently took over the stable after the passing of his father Christophe Clement, Deterministic employed a new running tactic by stalking the pace rather than leading from the start, a strategy that paid off. This victory marked Miguel Clement’s first Grade 1 win as a trainer and secured Deterministic a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, with Carmouche expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming race at Del Mar.
Both Clement and Carmouche have recently experienced personal losses, with Carmouche also losing his father in 2024, and they feel their fathers are celebrating this shared success. Looking ahead, Deterministic may compete in the Woodbine Mile or the Coolmore Turf Mile before the Breeders’ Cup, continuing his promising campaign on the turf.
