Deadly Flash Floods in Texas Leave 24 Dead and Dozens Missing, Mostly Summer Camp Girls

Torrential rains in Texas have caused devastating flash floods along the Guadalupe River, resulting in at least 24 deaths and leaving up to 25 girls missing, most of whom were campers at Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp housing around 700 girls. The flooding surged rapidly, rising over 26 feet within 45 minutes, sweeping away homes, vehicles, and parts of riverside communities. Emergency crews have conducted hundreds of rescues, including at least 167 helicopter airlifts, and continue searching through the night using infrared technology to locate those still missing.

The disaster has left families desperate for news, with survivors recounting harrowing experiences as the camp was overwhelmed by floodwaters. Texas officials, including Governor Greg Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, have pledged nonstop rescue efforts, while President Donald Trump promised federal assistance. The full extent of the tragedy remains unclear as search and rescue operations persist, and authorities have yet to confirm the total number of missing individuals.
