David E. Milner, 89, Beloved Community Member and Horse Enthusiast, Passes Away

David E. Milner, aged 89, of Carbon, passed away on July 5, 2025, after a long illness. Born on February 26, 1936, in Parke County, he graduated from Van Buren High School in 1954 and married Dorothy Smith in 1955, celebrating 70 years together. David worked for Shell Oil and later spent 30 years as a substation mechanic at Public Service Indiana before retiring in 1996. He was also known for shoeing horses and was deeply involved in the local equestrian community, including announcing horse shows and helping establish facilities at the Clay County 4-H fairgrounds.

David enjoyed square dancing, competitive pony pulling, hunting, and supporting his family’s activities. An avid Indiana University basketball fan, he cherished March Madness tournaments. He was preceded in death by three sons and several siblings and is survived by his wife, daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. Services will be held on July 11, 2025, with donations suggested to the Clay County 4-H Horse and Pony organization in his memory.
