Crenshaw County Kindergartners Explore Agriculture at Farm-City Day Event

Kindergarten students from across Crenshaw County gathered at the Tom Harbin Ag Center on November 21 for Farm-City Day, an event sponsored by local organizations including Alfa, the Alabama Farmer’s Federation, and the Crenshaw County Extension Office. The program aims to connect young students with their agricultural heritage, despite living in urban areas. Approximately 165 kindergartners participated, enjoying activities such as a petting zoo from Marley Acres, face painting by Crenshaw Community Hospital, and a 4-H extension station where they could milk a cow and gather chicken eggs.

In addition to hands-on agricultural experiences, students had the opportunity to see and interact with farm equipment, providing many with a rare glimpse into farming life. Amanda Evans, director of the Crenshaw County Extension, emphasized the importance of these experiences for children who might not otherwise encounter such equipment or farming activities.
