The Corsica Sale Barn, a historic South Dakota horse sale facility established in 1907, is undergoing a revitalization under new management led by auctioneer Blake Thompson. With 25 years of experience in the horse sale industry, Thompson aims to restore Corsica’s status as a premier equine market in the Great Plains. The barn, uniquely dedicated solely to horses, will now host monthly sales from February through November, featuring a structured catalogue sale with online marketing and previews, alongside a more informal “Open & Loose” sale. This dual approach caters to a wide range of buyers and sellers, offering diverse horse breeds and disciplines from across the country.
Thompson emphasizes Corsica’s central location and specialized services, including on-site veterinary care and the ability to hold horses post-sale for out-of-state buyers, as key advantages. By leveraging strong online marketing and live previews, Corsica aims to attract a national clientele and become a cornerstone of the regional and national equine industry. The management team is optimistic about the future, encouraging the equine community to participate and support the barn’s resurgence during a thriving period for the horse market.
